HAIL COULD COST YOU THOUSANDS
If you, or anyone you know, has property that was in the path of the hail storm that pummeled central Indiana in April 2006, you must protect yourself now. Failing to do so could unnecessarily cost you THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in the future.

Randy Key of Key's Roofing, a licensed roofer in central Indiana for nearly 40 years recently provided information about hail damage that all POSSIBLY affected home owners should consider.

Hail damage can be subtle. Hail most commonly makes "impressions" in a roof's shingles. Although the impressions may not cause roof leaks now, hail damage does shorten the life of the shingles. It is for this reason that home owner's insurance usually covers hail damage by paying for all or most of the cost of having a new roof installed on your home. If your area had hail, YOU ARE AT RISK.

The main risks are:

1. Hail damage can shorten the life of your shingles causing needed replacement sooner than would be normal.

2. If you decide to sell your home in the future, and your roof has hail damage, your roof will be considered DEFECTIVE! This means that you'll either need to replace the roof when you sell or your home will probably be devalued by the defective roof - which is considered a MAJOR DEFECT in Indiana.

It is important to protect yourself now, and by all means, do not assume that "it really wasn't THAT bad where we live". The best way to protect yourself is:

1. Call your home owner's insurance company and let them know that your area had hail and you are concerned that your roof may have hail damage.

2. Contact a licensed roofer and have your roof inspected.

Your time to file a claim with your insurance company is limited - it is very important to protect yourself with these steps now!
